Youth Collective

Youth Collective is an after school leadership and activism mentoring pathway for high schoolers.Scholars from Rainier Beach and Franklin High School sign up through the CLAY curriculum and work together throughout the year. They are a part of leadership circles, one-on-one advocacy and skill building in arts, develop job readiness skills and participate in community event organizing. We offer five pathways: CLAY advocacy, NO Excuses campaign, Photography, Spoken Word and Graphic Design and Illustraion.

C.L.A.Y. Peer Advocates

CLAY scholars share the desire to create change in their friend groups, schools, and their communities. Their advocacy highlights issues like teen dating violence, racism and implicit bias, and other community themes that come up in their daily life. They will perform and present at Good Foot events, learn how to community organize, and lead peer workshops in their high school advisory classes and school assemblies. In order to disrupt any form of violence, they believe in initiating conversations with their peers and community members by challenging previous thought processes and actions through prevention and education.

NO Excuses

No Excuses zones into aspirations for our community, through advocacy, focusing on preventing violence, sexual misconduct, toxic behaviors and abuse. Scholars create projects that can help start the conversations in our communities. What can that look like? Our youth have created a coloring book, podcast and Tik Tok pages in the past.

Photography

The photography pathway focuses on developing students' art in photography from scratch. Understanding the fundamentals of how to use a camera and composition techniques in order to create a compelling story through still images and learning how to put together and lead their own creative projects.

Graphic Design & Illustration

Scholars develop their artistic skills to express themselves through visual art.  Using graphic design and illustration they bring awareness to social issues that are important to them. Personal artivist (art + activism) projects of their own choice and public service announcement posters are some of the pieces scholars create and will be exhibited at two of our large events in the fall and winter.

Spoken Word

Scholars bring in their hearts, minds and souls in creative expression through poetry and coached in spoken word performance. They develop skills in poetry writing through readings and healing centered engagement exercises. Artists build their writing into a published collective book and perform personal pieces and a collaborative community piece at our two large events in the fall and winter.
