COLORING BOOK

In 2022, Layla Muktar and Ayiana Hernandez-Kiehn were scholars in the NO Excuses cohort, part of The Good Foot's Youth Collective Mentorship program (YC). During their time in YC, Layla and Ayiana were inspired to bring conversations around violence prevention to grade school scholars. The No Excuses Coloring Book was the result of their vision and leadership, which also led them to receive a youth-led grant award in 2022 and 2023 from the Youth Healing Project (Cities Rise).

Our vision is to empower our youth by giving them an outlet to better express their emotions. It will also be an outlet for educators, young adults, and parents to get a better understanding of the status of their students' social and emotional literacy. Our plan is to outreach to local grade schools to facilitate workshops with our coloring book full of activities and No Excuses!

As part of the 2025 C.L.A.Y. Elementary School leadership program, 5th grade scholars at Graham Hill Elementary School (Seattle, WA) helped to co-create additional pages of the NO Excuses Coloring Book. Their pages brought a fresh take on topics relevant to youth today and stemmed from the discussions and activities highlighted in the C.L.A.Y. Elementary School Curriculum.
